Many people feel powerless when it comes to helping the environment, but when restaurants take a stand to act more sustainably, they give customers the power to do the same. This heavily influences where people choose to eat.

Kobas x GiftTrees
Kobas has partnered with GiftTrees, helping restaurants and other eateries drive sustainability whilst providing communities in developing countries with the opportunity to create permanent and positive change. When a customer gifts a tree (£1.23), this helps counterbalance the environmental impact of their meal. This initiative is completely free to use and deploy.
Using Kobas, you can:
- Easily 'Add A Tree' to your customer's bill, which can be optionally removed;
- Explain to your customer what the donation is for;
- Allow Kobas to automatically send over details of your contributions so that GiftTrees can process payments and rewards

Configuration
| 1 | Inform Kobas Support | Contact Kobas Support to tell them you want to progress with this integration. Our first step will be to create a new Lead Type for you that doesn't contribute to venue sales called "Contributions". |
| 2 | Create an EPoS Item Category | Your second step is to create an EPoS Item Category called "Donations" that is Exempt from Service Charge. |
| 3 | Create an EPoS Item | Once complete, you need to create a "Tree Contribution" EPoS Item within Kobas. You can name this EPoS Item what you'd like as it will be displayed on your customers' receipts. Assign it to the appropriate tax rate (usually "No VAT") and add it to the "Contributions" category. |
| 4 | Add to each menu page | We advise that you add the EPoS Item button to the top left or right of each Menu Page in a bold colour. |
| 5 | Add a screen message | We recommend going to your Venue settings and setting a screen message as a reminder for staff to add the GiftTrees EPoS Item. Note you will need to do this in the settings for each participating venue. |
| 6* | Add a receipt footer note |
Within Venue settings you can also add a footer note to the receipt that explains the voluntary nature of the contribution and where it's going to. Note you will need to do this in the settings for each participating venue. |
| 7 | Update Kobas Support | Contact Kobas Support to tell them you have completed your steps and let them know which EPoS Item represents the GiftTree contribution. It will then take us a few working days to finalise the work. |

Adding contributions to a bill
Simply add your tree contribution item to the end of a customer's bill.
This video shows how easy the process is for your front-of-house teams.
Reporting
Kobas will automatically send the following data to GiftTrees daily.
- Company and Venue data
- Transaction data (inc time/date, total bill amount, tree contribution amount, VAT)
- Customer data (if linked to the transaction)
- Service data (Table ID, Staff ID and Name of who complete the bill)
As this is set up as an EPoS item, you can see the data within your Revenue Analysis, particularly the All Item Sales report.
