Introduction
Changing your network setup can be quite a hassle at times, however, once there aren't any drastic changes Kobas should work as normal but let's dive into the details. Before any network changes are made we'll need to know the current router's IP.
Establishing the router IP address
Windows
• Press Win + R
• A run prompt should open in the bottom left
• Type cmd into the input and press enter
• A command prompt will open
• Type the following into the command prompt and click enter
ipconfig | findstr /i "Gateway"
• Your Default gateway, probably something like 192.168.0.1, will show
MacOS
• Open the OSX Terminal: Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal
Or you can press cmd+space and type terminal
• Type the following command and press enter.
netstat -nr | grep default
• Your router's default IP will be shown
Once we've gathered the router's IP, you can change over the router or network once the new router's IP address is set to the same as the old router and Kobas should work as expected.
You can find out through your Internet Service Provider help pages about setting your new router's IP address as it's quite a common and easy procedure.
Warning: If you would like to use a different router IP Address, you will need to inform the Support Help Desk of the new IP address prior to the network being changed over, otherwise your Kobas devices will fail to function.
Common complications
So you've set the new router's IP to be the same as the old IP but the Kobas devices still aren't working, this would more than likely be due to a firewall issue or added security measures in the new setup. You'll need to liaise with your network team or internal IT department/contact to check that the below ports are open as Kobas requires them to function.
DNS | 53 | TCP + UDP | DNS |
HTTP | 80 | TCP | Traditional web requests |
NTP | 123 | UDP | Time servers |
HTTPS | 443 | TCP | Secure web requests |
VPN | 1194 | UDP | VPN connection for patches and remote administration |
